19. Go around declaring a storm day

Today a crazy storm struck Riyadh. Rain. Hail. Wind. Sand. The whole package.
Just before school was supposed to be dismissed, the head of security came on the PA system saying that we were stuck at school for a little longer. But once we got out of school 30 minutes later, students scrambled for the buses. Everyone was hoping that school would be cancelled tomorrow.
On the way home, we saw flooded streets, abandoned cars, uprooted trees, and broken barriers. Just another reason to close school.
During the evening a message from the superintendent went up on the School Wide News. School is closed tomorrow.
Once that got out, we had a Facebook and calling frenzy to declare our first official storm day.
The rain started at around 2:30. It's 10:25, and it just stopped raining.

Anyway, this storm is such a huge deal that a Facebook group was made for it.

On February 15 we ran the Terry Fox Run.
This year's course was longer than ever with a distance of 3 laps around campus (as opposed to the usual 2).

As part of the National Honor Society, Sama helped organize the event for the high school. Michelle played her part by designing the t-shirt.

It was a pretty exhausting run because our IB diploma lives had made us lazy, but we managed to finish in under half an hour. We were then greeted by delicious popsicles.

On December 9, 2009 we went to the Student Council's annual winter dance. To make it more casual, it was called the Winter Chill this year.

The dance took place right after the SAIKAC soccer tournament so there were students from visiting teams too. We even caught up with Mary from elementary school!

It was a great night full of pizza, dancing, and laughter.

Michelle had plans to go to Kingdom mall at four but Sama didn't. All of a sudden, plans changed. Sama was at Kingdom when she got a text from Michelle saying, "Zara has gone through further reductions."

So, Sama knew Michelle was at the mall and called her on the spot to tell her to stand still. Michelle stood around confused, until Sama burst through the Zara entrance less than a minute later.

They then went on a scavenger hunt for leggings and birthday presents.
Sama bought two shirts (one from Zara and one from Bershka), a pair of simple shoes for school, jewelry for gifts (for Hina & Zen), and a sweater. Michelle bought herself a pair of leggings and a birthday present for Hina.
